Althoff committed five turnovers Friday and suffered an ugly 21-13 loss at Carbondale in a South Seven Conference game.

The Crusaders outgained Carbondale 203-26 in the first half, but led just 7-0 as Carbondale's Jeremy Lomax had two interceptions inside the Terriers' 5-yard line to stop drives.

The Terriers (3-4 overall, 2-2 South Seven) then dominated the second half, limiting Althoff to 23 yards.

Junior defensive end Ishamel Khaaliq's recovery of a botched snap in Althoff's end zone brought the Terriers within 7-6 in the third quarter. The Terriers then took control in the fourth quarter on Tyler Bryant's 11-yard TD run and James Austin's 28-yard TD run.

Richard Burrell's 13-yard TD catch from Jaban Taylor on the final play of the game wasn't enough for Althoff (2-5, 1-3). Taylor was playing for Brady Nowak, who suffered a right-arm injury near the end of the first half.

"Losing the quarterback hurt tonight, but we had two chances in the first half in the end zone," said Althoff coach Ken Turner.

Nowak gained 65 yards on 14 rushes before leaving the game. His 5-yard keeper with 8:45 remaining in the first quarter capped a 62-yard drive for Althoff's only other points points.

Bryant and Austin combined for 152 yards and two TDs in the second half.

The Crusaders gained 264 yards in a loss that killed any chances of an at-large playoff berth.

Alton 42, Collinsville 21

Kenny Jones ran for three touchdowns as the Alton Redbirds beat the Collinsville Kahoks in a Southwestern Conference game.

Jones scored on runs of 4, 1 and 10 yards.

Dominique Robinson also had a 13-yard touchdown run and Jacoby Womack had a 30-yard touchdown for the Redbirds, who built up a 28-0 halftime lead.

Jevon Hawkins threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Andre Borney and ran 1 yard for a touchdown for the Kahoks.

Borney also caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from Sam Calvin in the fourth quarter.

Columbia 35, Central 7

Quarterback Brian Winters threw for 259 yards and ran for 123 yards in leading the Columbia Eagles past the Central Cougars.

The Eagles trailed 7-0 at halftime, but scored 35 unanswered points in the second half.

Austin Givens had six carries -- three that went for touchodwns -- for 113 yards in leading the Mascoutah Indians to a 42-13 win over the Jerseyville Panthers in a Mississippi Valley Conference game.

Justin Vonder Haar threw five touchdown pass as the Mater Dei Knights routed Eldorado 57-0.

Vonder Haar completed 12 of 18 passes for 250 yards.

Freeburg 34, Wesclin 26

Alex Fricke ran for 104 yards and one touchown and threw for 259 yards and three touchdowns as the Freeburg Midgets got past the Wesclin Warriors in a Cahokia Conference game.

Luke Gruender had two touchdown passes and a 2-yard touchdown run for the Warriors.
